How to Wax at Home Like a Pro: A Step-by-Step Guide

How to Wax at Home Like a Pro: A Step-by-Step Guide

How to Wax at Home Like a Pro: A Step-by-Step Guide

Let’s be real — at-home waxing can feel a little intimidating. But with the right tools (hello, neuBuff kits) and a few expert tips, you can get smooth, hair-free skin without leaving the house.

Whether you're a first-timer or a DIY beauty lover, follow this step-by-step guide to master waxing at home like a pro.

Step 1: Prep Your Skin

Clean, dry skin is essential for great results. Use the neuBuff Pre-Wax Spray to add moisture to the skin prior to waxing.  Ensure that the skin is dry by rubbing any excess oil into the skin.

Pro Tip: Try to start with clean skin (no make-up or lotions)

Step 2: Heat Your Wax Correctly

Heat your neuBuff Waxed-It Beads by placing them in your warmer. Wax should be heated to a honey-like consistency — smooth and spreadable, not runny.

Always test a small amount on your inner wrist before applying.

Pro Tip: Too hot? Let it cool for a bit. Too cool? Reheat slightly.

Step 3: Apply the Wax

Using a spatula, holding it at a 45 degree angle to the skin, apply wax against the direction of hair growth. Then smooth back down, capturing all of the hair. Keep it even and not too thick (think frosting a cake!).

Pro Tip: When using hard wax (neuBuff Wax Beads), form a little “lip” at the end to grip for removal.

Step 4: Remove Like a Pro

Hold your skin taut with one hand, and with the other, pull the wax strip off quickly in the opposite direction of hair growth. Pull close to the skin — not up (think airplane taking off).

Pro Tip: The faster you pull, the better (and less painful!) it is. Don't forget to pull the skin taught!

Step 5: Calm & Care

After waxing, apply neuBuff Post-Wax Oil or a soothing aloe gel to calm the skin. Avoid heat, tight clothes, sun exposure and sweating for 24 hours post-wax.

Bonus Tips:

  • Hair should be at least ¼ inch long.

  • Exfoliate 24 hours before waxing to prevent ingrowns.

  • Wax every 4–6 weeks for smoother long-term results.

  • Clean your kit after each use and store it in a cool, dry place.
